Sterling Farms  |  Stamford, CT

Escape to the Quiet.

Nestled in a quiet park-like setting, just 40 minutes outside New York City in Stamford, Connecticut, Sterling Farms is an 18-hole public golf facility laid out over 144 acres of a once active dairy farm. Originally designed by Architect Geoffrey Cornish in 1969 and renovated by Architect Robert McNeill in 2005, the par 72 course opened in the spring of 1972.

Sterling Farms’ rolling terrain guides you through the picturesque farm buildings and challenging holes, including its difficult par 3s, which demand distance, accuracy, and good putting to score well. With a variety of tees to play from, golfers of all skill levels are offered a fair and fun challenge.

At 6310 yards from the back tees, and slope of 127, Sterling Farms presents a fair and reasonable test. Move up one set of tees to 6082, and slope 123, and a bogey-level player should have a fine and fun day.

The front nine is hilly with several elevated tees or greens. The back nine is flatter. Overall, most of the fairways are wide and forgiving.

With five ponds on the property, water dictates the line of play on several holes, including the 14th, where two ponds dictate a thoughtful approach. The bunkering around the course is particularly well-planned for defending par. This course has well-maintained greens and fairways.

Noted for its meticulous condition, layout, heated driving range and amenities, the facility gets rated the #1 public golf course in Fairfield County year after year.

In 2005, Sterling Farms began an extensive renovation project to the tees and greens and a new practice facility with a sand trap, chipping green, and putting green behind the pro shop.  The club plans to phase in future improvements over the next few years until the entire golf course is updated.

Even though it enjoys much popularity, there’s always room for more friends at Sterling Farms. Try it out.
